Kathleen O. Parente, MD

Dr. Kathleen O’Neil Parente is the oldest of five children from Marlborough, Massachusetts. She is a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston College with majors in Biology and Psychology. After graduating with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine, she chose a career in pediatrics based on the experience of several jobs working both with children and in medical environments. While at Georgetown she met her husband Antonio, a Cardiologist at Virginia Heart, and remained in the area to complete a Residency at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center. She was selected to continue at Children’s Hospital as a Chief Resident, and then joined Pediatric Associates of Alexandria in 1989.

Dr. Parente is Board Certified in Pediatrics, is a member of the Pediatric Staff at Inova Alexandria and Inova Fairfax Hospitals and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Academic Staff in the Department of Pediatric Medicine at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center, Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Health Care Sciences at George Washington University and Assistant Professor Inova Teaching Faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University. Since joining PAA, she especially enjoys infant care and development, as well as guiding the progress of well children from birth through adolescence. Uniquely rewarding is the opportunity to care for second generation Pediatric Associates patients! She has been recognized several times by her peers in The Washingtonian Top Doctors, Northern Virginia Best Doctors and Best Doctors in America.

With her husband she is proud to have two children. Laura is a 2010 graduate of the College of William and Mary and in 2015 received an MD/MPH from the University of Virginia, completed Pediatric Residency at UNC and and is a pediatric hospitalist in Wilmington North Carolina. Michael is a 2013 graduate and 2015 MPH graduate of the University of Virginia, a 2020 JD recipient of the University of South Carolina School of Law, and currently a Litigation Attorney in Columbia, South Carolina.  With her family she has been active in school, scouts, sports and community activities and now enjoys time for reading, fitness and travel to warm and sunny places.
