Anne B. Kernan-Grunzke, MD
Dr. Kernan was born and grew up in Minnesota. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the College of St. Catherine in 1989. After graduating she married her Naval officer husband and moved to southern California. Dr. Kernan earned her medical degree from the University of Southern California Medical School in 1996 and completed her pediatric residency at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center in 1999. She has been a practicing private pediatrician ever since, and joined Pediatric Associates of Alexandria in 2005.
Dr. Kernan is a member of the pediatric staff at Inova Alexandria and Fairfax Hospitals. She has been Board Certified in Pediatrics since 1999, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is an associate professor of medicine at VCU medical school. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents in addition to caring for her patients at Pediatric Associates of Alexandria. Dr. Kernan has had a special interest in mental health since medical school. In May of 2016, after taking additional training through Inova and the REACH Institute, Dr. Kernan began doing anxiety and depression evaluations in the office.
When not in the office or hospital, Dr. Kernan enjoys supporting her two children on the soccer field, basketball court and baseball diamond. She is an avid reader and speaks medical Spanish.
